Here is another hint, you don’t need to go and spend a ton of $$$ on an iron rod to hang you decorations, you can go to Walmart or Target and find a nice cafe rod ($4 in the curtain rod section) and hang that on your wall. Dress it up with some hanging signs or a flower swag above it and TA DA, beautiful inexpensive wall art!
Trick or Treat
Posted by admin on October 8th, 2010
I love making crafts that I can switch out with each holiday or season. That is one of the reasons I love the possibilities of these hanging signs. I’m going to show you how I made my Trick or Treat.
This is a simple craft that is 2 of my favorite things EASY and CHEAP!
1. wooden plaques, (Hobby Lobby, 2 for a $1)
2. Scrapbook paper
3. Mod Podge
4. Black paint
6. Vinyl (read my tutorial for other options)
7. staple gun
First things first, paint your wood pieces black.
Once they have dried, mod podge your paper on. I like to not get to crazy with the modge podge. Brush it on but you don’t need a ton just enough to cover the backside of your paper.
Then, quickly before it dries lay it on top of your wood piece.
After I get it in place I like to take my ruler and slide it across the paper taking out any bubbles.
Once the modge podge is dry… SAND IT!!
I like to use my hand held sander, just because it is quick!
I sand off the paint on the edges and then I rough up the paper edges a little.
Next is apply another layer of mod podge to seal the paper on. I like this a little thicker giving it a textured brush look.
Next you are going to apply the vinyl. I used the Columbus Font. I think it comes with all Windows products. Yes, I have SCAL2 and I LOVE IT!!!
Here is a hint, if you don’t have a cricut and you don’t want to buy vinyl just print out your lettering on your computer. Cut it out and apply it with mod podge as well. Apply another layer to the top to give it the glossy appearance.
I used tulle to hang my sign, you could use ribbon if you want, I just like the look of tulle. To attach measure your blocks to find the middle, then use you staple gun and BOOM it’s stuck! Tie it in a pretty bow and hang!
