Today I am going to show you how to make a corn husk witch…
I found it in the Disney Family Fun Magazine and thought it looked like something worth trying! :) I made mine a little different then theirs, I used cotton string instead of pipe cleaners and I didn’t use the same kind of yarn but it turned out pretty cute.
Things you will need…
Corn Husks (at your grocery store, Tamale wrappers)
First thing you need to do is soak your corn husks in water, about 5 min. I put a water bottle on top just to keep them submerged.
Then you are going to take 4 corn husks and stack them on top of each other. Keep the shorter ones on top. Also take about 25 strands of yarn and tie a not in the end of them to hold them together.
Place the yarn inside the corn husks and roll them up. With your string tie the top of it together, nice and tight.
Then you are going to fold the corn husks back turning it inside out. Tie another piece of string around the top to create the head.
Next you are going to roll up a corn husk and tie some string to the ends to create her arms. Then carefully slide it through her “dress” You will have to cut some holes or tear some holes in the corn husks. Thread them through. You are also going to tie another piece of string under the arms to create the body. (sorry didn’t get a picture of that step,)
This is the hardest part of the witch, making the hat…
Cut two circles, (Eye it to how big your doll is, it will roughly be around 4-5 inches in diameter.) One circle you are going to cut an asterisk in the center. This will be the brim of the hat.
The other, you are going to cut in half, then roll one half up into a cone shape. Thread some string into the big end of the cone where the ends come together to help it keep its shape. (sorry no picture, I need both hands to hold it together at the time)
Carefully and I mean carefully slide the tip of the cone through the slits in the base. Forming the hat…
I then placed my witch on a vase to help her dry with a nice round skirt.
Once she is dry I cut around her skirt to give it some layers, and also trimmed it up so that she would stand up straight.
